What makes a Fabric Waterproof?

One type of Waterproof Fabric is waterproof simply because the Threads are woven so tightly that water cannot easily get inside or through. Other Waterproof materials are Waterproof because they have been treated with a Rubber Coating that keeps Water out. Some Coatings will only temporarily Waterproof a material such that the Coating or Treatment wears away over time and needs to be reapplied.
