Why Dogs pant during hot summer days?

Dogs, unlike humans do not have sweat glands or any other mechanisms to reduce the body temperatures. Therefore, we can often see dogs panting during the hot sunny days to reduce their body temperature using fundamental process called evaporation.

Panting results in the evaporation of the dog's saliva from its tounge, which further lowers the temperature in that part, due to the absorption of heat during evaporation.
